The Home Stretch!

Sunday, June 06, 2010
I'm typing this as we motor out of Moreton Bay and up the last 25nm to Mooloolaba and home! It's just getting light and I've got Mike and my brother Tom on board as crew. Actually right now Toms not being the most brilliant crew, he's passed out on my bunk! Big Wave Rider is motoring along beside us and I'm pretty excited about the home coming planned for later today!

We've had a great sail up the coast with quick stops at Port Stephens, Trial Bay, Yamba, Peel Island and last night at Tangalooma on Moreton Island where we were given royal treatment at the resort (dinner, hot showers and dolphin feeding). At Yamba I was thrilled to have had the chance to meet Kay Cottee, when we stopped in for fuel and hot chips.

Sailing up the New South Wales coast was great fun but pretty wet with lots of rain. Since reaching Queensland the sun's been out (of course!) and it's been a little strange and really cool to pass through the Gold Coast broadwater and Moreton Bay where I learnt to sail all that time ago!
